Congratulations to Andes Central School's August Students of the Month! Gracie, Syndee, Adryl, and Jamian come to class with a positive attitude, respect for their peers and staff, as well as leadership in the school.

Spelling + Basketball = A Winning Combination!
Last week, we turned spelling review into a little friendly competition! Our 5th graders raced to the board, put their spelling skills to the test, and then took their best shot at the basket.
There was lots of teamwork, excitement, and cheering along the way! I love seeing students practice their learning while having FUN!

Last week, the 4th graders enjoyed using a battery to light up a small bulb! We were learning about opened and closed circuits.
The Andes Central FFA Chapter is selling t-shirts. If you are interested, please contact one of the FFA students or Mr. DeNeui. Orders are due September 25th.
Andes Central School's first Enhancement Day will be Friday, September 18th. Buses will run routes starting @ 8am. Enhancement will be from 9am-Noon. Students with tardies & absences that need to catch up on work, failing a class, needing intervention for reading & math, or guidance counseling will need to attend.
Jenna covered a day in the life of a nurse, laboratory procedures (blood spinning ect), X-rays, casting, what to do in emergencies, sutures, and how to give shots.

On Monday, students learned about volcanos in two ways. First, in science, we learned about how volcanos erupt by viewing a video, reading a non-fiction passage, and making a model volcano. Next, in our social skills class, we read a book called "Don't Blow Your Top" and related big emotions to a volcano erupting. Students practiced strategies like deep breathing and counting to 10 when those feelings occur.

The fifth graders are learning about making inferences. One engaging way they practiced this skill was by watching Pixar short films. While watching the films, students were asked to make inferences about different scenes and identify clues from the film that supported their thinking and helped them make their inferences.

Our 5th graders wrapped up their Matter Unit with a little throwback to one of the classics—Bill Nye the Science Guy!
After learning about matter and its changes, students got to enjoy some good old-fashioned Bill Nye science fun to finish off the unit! Nothing like a little throwback science to end a great unit!
