Andes Central students enjoyed some St. Patrick's Day activities on Tuesday!

Mrs. Swanson's 3rd graders had a great time teaming up with their 6th grade buddies from Mr. Johnson's class on March 17th for some St. Patrick’s Day math fun! 🍀 Students played a “Rollin’ for Gold” game where they rolled two dice, multiplied the numbers, and moved along a chutes-and-ladders style board.
Afterward, buddies worked together to complete a multiplication color-by-code activity. It was awesome to see teamwork, encouragement, and math skills all in action!

First graders in Mrs. Hellenga's class have started learning how to tell time. They practiced their new skill by playing a partner game. It was a fun way to learn and work together.

Mrs. Deurmier and Miss Ekroth took 15 students to Armour on March 18th to participate in the 2026 Prairie Reader Competition. These students competed against several surrounding schools.
2nd Grade: Evelyn, Azriel, Max, and Kailey
3rd Grade: Evyn, Zeke, and Ian
5th Grade: Kourtney, Brynlee, Adam, and Taryn
6th Grade: Ella, Bella, Madelyn, and Addisyn
Second grade placed third, third grade placed third, and sixth grade won the competition for the third year in a row! Congratulations to these students for representing Andes Central School!

Ms. Janish's kindergartners used a variety of activities to review addition. It was a fun way to work on math and social skills!

In Guidance, we have had an eventful quarter; we covered 7 Mindset lessons and activities for National School Choice Week, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Valentine's Day, and most recently, Read Across America Week. Students worked on creating gratitude "gardens" and handed these to family/friends/teachers who help them grow.
Relatedly, families can ask their children what they learned from reading The Lorax. We discussed how we can grow our creativity like Dr. Suess, how we care for our trees and wild friends, and, in return, how trees and furry friends can help us feel calm, safe, and focused! Keep a look out for more creative activities and 7 Mindset lessons coming home.

In Ms. Smith’s preschool class, we have been learning all about different habitats. Last week, we studied the rainforest and learned about the animals that live in its different layers. This week, we have been learning about the savanna and our favorite animals that live there. We even measured how many preschoolers standing on top of one another it would take to reach the height of an elephant!

On Tuesday, Andes Central High School students participated in a safety course covering hands-on CPR, hands-on choking, using an AED, and Narcan education. Special thanks to the ladies from Avera St.Benedict's who took time out of their day to train us.
