Andes Central School Teacher Spotlight ~ Mrs. Kristen Maynard

Third graders in Miss Arpan’s class are working on writing and illustrating a short story. Upon completion they will read them to other students in younger classes.

On Earth Day, Mrs. Swanson’s 3rd graders got creative with rock painting, adding bright colors and inspirational messages to spread a little positivity! We will be placing some of our rocks by the school’s flag pole to welcome everyone who comes in with a smile, and they each made a second one to take home and share a message even further.
Such a simple activity, but a great reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big impact—on our planet and each other.

Reminder: Andes Central will not have school tomorrow, April 24th.

NHS members joined in on BINGO at the nursing home.

The first graders in Mrs. Herrold's class had tons of fun with geometry this week. We constructed cube monsters, built towers with 3D shapes, and created pictures with 2D shapes.

Ms. Reck's and Ms. Leber's classes came together to work in groups on a fun and challenging cargo paper airplane project. Each group was given two sheets of paper and three pennies, which their airplane had to carry while flying. Students worked collaboratively to design planes that balanced creativity with the ability to travel long distances despite the added weight. During testing, each group was given three chances to throw their airplane and achieve the farthest distance possible. This activity encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and hands-on learning as students experimented with different designs.

Middle School Math students were learning how to find volume of 3D figures.

With the change in weather, sometimes you just need to move class outside — and that’s what students did for Guidance. During our time outdoors, students practiced calming strategies to help manage state testing nerves and lower any stress.
To make the lesson more helpful, we also integrated a simple poetry reflection alongside our calming skills. This gave students time to slow down and notice their breathing, which seems much needed during testing. We reflected on how grounding ourselves can help our minds focus and our bodies relax.
Families can ask students what calming skills they practiced and when they use this outside of class. It was fun to watch them practice together!

Andes Central Week of Events

Andes Central School Teacher Spotlight ~ Mrs. Amy Harrington

Our 5th grade class wrapped up two big days of state testing with a well-deserved Fun Friday! 🎉
Students spent the morning diving into hands-on STEM activities, working together, and getting creative. We also had some time for games—including a very competitive (and fun!) round of spoons that kept everyone on their toes! 🥄
We are so proud of all the hard work and focus these students showed during testing. It was great to see them relax, laugh, and enjoy time together after giving it their all!

The 2nd grade students have enjoyed going to the Nursing Home this year. On 3/25, students made bird feeders with the residents to celebrate the beginning of Spring. On 4/8, students read to the residents and were able to make a resident's day by singing her Happy Birthday!

Good Luck to Luke, Callie, and Marin at State FFA!

Andes Central School was informed that there is grass fire near Archambeau hill. Due to safety concerns, students will not be transported to homes in this area. If you live in this area, please come to the school to pick up your children. Thank you.
Reminder: Tomorrow, April 17th is an Enhancement Day

The HS track meet scheduled for Friday in Avon has been moved to tomorrow, April 16th and will start @ 11am.
The Physical Science class toured the Prevailing Wind Park to learn how wind turbines make electricity. Thank you to Tyson Brooks for giving us the tour.

The 8th graders attended a career fair in Wagner to explore different jobs.

A huge shout out to Linkyn, Tate, Christina, and Max for being chosen as Andes Central's March Students of the Month! You have made a positive impact by showing your leadership, kindness, guidance, and support towards your peers. Keep up the great work!
