It may look like Mrs. H’s preschoolers are just having fun playing, but they are really working on strengthening their fine motor skills without even knowing it! They practice eye-hand coordination and build hand strength by pinching, scooping, rolling, squeezing, stringing, and connecting.

Reminder: No school for students tomorrow, Sept 12th ~ Staff Inservice.

In guidance class last week, Ms. Garcia covered what it means to use our creativity to solve problems and make new things! Students engaged in various activities to practice using their minds in this way. Fifth graders worked together to create "inventions" with Legos, and other classes made colorful flyers about creativity. First graders came up with their own song! It was refreshing to see what new ideas students devised.

We have a lot of awesome students here at Andes Central, but these four were selected to be Students of the Month for August. The ACSD is proud of these four individuals and the positive attitude and work ethic they bring to the classroom every day. Go Eagles!

Word Wizards in Action! Ms. Neill’s 5th grade class took on the challenge of a new game called WordGPT — and they crushed it!
In this word-building competition, students raced the AI to create the most complex and high-scoring words. We’re proud to share that they won 2 out of 3 rounds with some seriously impressive vocabulary!

Ms. Kaiser's ELA students work to expand their vocabularies every Monday. They copy down the list of terms and definitions into their notebooks, identify which part of speech each term is, and use it in a sentence.

When the 5th graders checked out their library books with Mrs. DeHaan, she didn’t tell them that some of their choices would be photographed. It was an experiment to see how many would pick graphic novels or The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
Graphic novels are hugely popular with the Dog Man series topping the list. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has remained in constant demand also. It is fun seeing students get excited over books!

One of the best parts of the day in Mrs. Hellenga’s first grade class is story time with Flat Stanley! The students have already finished their first Flat Stanley book and are now traveling the world through Flat Stanley’s Worldwide Adventures. The excitement doesn’t stop there—each student colored and laminated their very own Stanley to take home! Now Stanley gets to go on adventures with the students, and they can’t wait to write in their journals at school about all the fun things they do together.
